It is an amazing simulation and to answer the question the charged rod attract an aluminum can because they both have different charges. The aluminum have positive and negative charge as shown in the simulation but the charged rod have either negative or positive which;
Electrons attract with protons
but same charges can’t attract each other which is proton can’t attract with proton.
