In this Chemthink tutorial, you will explore isotopes and take a short quiz. Topics include:
Thank you so much to Mr. Charles Sprandal for making this wonderful tutorial!

I think you need to correct a small error. The amu should be a whole number in the example above not a decimal.
92.2% of all the Si is isotope 28…meaning you multiple 0.922 x 28amu not 27.98amu. Small error but should be changed.

Jason,
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll be sure to put this in when I rewrite it for HTML5!

You are wrong. whole number amus are rounded for simplicity.

actually those are the more accurate masses of each isotope, the numbers are not incorrect.

No… you did write. It must be the exact amount……do not change it.

I think the photo was supposed to launch the tutorial??? The tutorial button does not work…just hoping it was supposed to run with the photo link…

Cindy,
Sorry for the confusion!
For these older tutorial/question sets, the photo doesn’t launch the app. You have to click on either “Tutorial” or “Problem Set” to launch the corresponding activity. Once I convert this one over to HTML5, you should be able to launch into the new Chemthink app by simply clicking on the picture.

Right–I just can’t run it from the buttons. My computer won’t let me open the download, through chrome. So, I was hoping it was just a missing link on the photo so it would run like the others. But I see those just link directly back to chemthink. I love chemthink by the way. Thank you!!!
I thought I could somehow get to the tutorial otherwise. I think I used to be able to (through the buttons). But they may have changed something about the configuration of our computers. They do have flash, but won’t run the download. I think I can get it to open on mine in Internet explorer, but my students won’t be able to on their chromebooks, which, of course, only have chrome.
So, thank you thank you thank you for all of your hard work with chemthink. I really appreciate it as a chemistry teacher.

Aha, now I understand. The problem is that these are still Flash, and Chrome has Flash disabled by default. You should be able to enable it in Chrome by following these steps:

Hello,
Tutorial is not working. Should I download a program for it to work? I love the simulations. Most of them are working but this one. Can you please help?

The Isotopes simulation is still only available in its original Flash version. I haven’t had time to convert it over to HTML5 so that it runs on modern browsers yet. In order to get it to work, you must use an actual computer (not a Chromebook/tablet/phone) and enable the site to run Flash content. It will probably give you a warning about Flash being a security risk (in this case its not!). If that doesn’t work, you can download the .swf file and play the file with Adobe Flash Player.

I think this would great. However, there are a number of errors.

I’m glad you like it! Which errors did you find? 🙂
